Your Expert Trainer
He is a leading expert in working with individuals, teams and organisations to help them build their capability through high-performance team development, one on one coaching, leadership programs, cultural measurement and development and organisational advisory roles.
He has been working with senior leaders in many of Australia’s and overseas top organisations for 30 years. Prior to co-founding his first consultancy business, he worked at the Executive table of several Global Companies in People & Culture as well as leading projects in Operations, Health & Safety, Business & Strategy and Mergers and Acquisitions, at times responsible for over 6,000 heads in businesses worth over AUD$6B.
From that position in the hierarchy, with a bird’s eye view of the business, what struck him the most was that the very best leaders were always hearing and engaging with the voices of their people. These people knew themselves impeccably well, were always thoughtful and planned as leaders, and constantly pulse-checked their impact. Their authenticity was always apparent and strengthened an ambition to add to this pool of great leaders. In any major cultural/executive leadership work, there will always be individual breakthroughs that contribute to the whole, and supporting that process is another great passion of his.
His areas of specialty include working with senior executive teams on a wide range of matters, mentoring and coaching executives, and designing and facilitating leadership development. He has been consulting for over 22 years and has worked with over 200 clients in multiple sectors, has published three books and has been on several NFP Boards. Jim is a judge for the Australian Employer of Choice Awards. He designed a global first tool measuring Business Acumen, which has had over 6,000 users.
To his clients he is a trusted advisor. They value his extensive experience and trust in the consulting relationship. He has worked with some of the most senior leaders and, in some instances, challenging personalities, always trying to encourage growth by supporting these leaders to become key contributors. Conversely, if circumstances necessitate it, he can support leaders to make the tough decisions, ride the course and make the ‘big’ shift that is needed to move on. His approach is pragmatic and commercial, and when he talks with leaders about culture, leadership and performance, he does so on a bedrock of real experience and insight linked to business outcomes. His book publications include Three Spirits of Leadership (1997), Leader as Coach (2012), Emotional Intelligence Workbook with Dr Susan David of Harvard (2015)
