He has over 10 years of experience in the energy industry, with the past 7 specifically focused on alternative marine fuels. His research interests span policy, political economy, and socio-technical transitions in the maritime industry. He has worked with multiple maritime stakeholders, including ports, shipowners, financiers, and charterers to understand how maritime decarbonization can take place. Besides being a Consultant at UMAS, a maritime decarbonization consultancy, he is also a Research Associate at the University College London (UCL) Energy Institute. He uses mixed research methods to pursue research into the nature of fuel transition pathways necessary to reach a low carbon shipping future. In an academic and consulting capacity he has interacted, worked, and collaborated with shipowners, shipowners’ associations, maritime administrations, bunkering providers, and other relevant stakeholders for decarbonization of the shipping industry. His work has spanned safety regulations for alternative fuels, costs of novel bunkering infrastructure, development of novel bunkering procedures, technical challenges, financial and other policy mechanisms necessary to make such a transition viable and understanding the key actors involved in these processes. His experience is primarily focused on Scandinavia, western Europe, and the United Kingdom, but he has also worked on multiple international projects involving clients and stakeholders in Southeast Asia and north America, primarily through the UMAS consultancy.
